The 2020-2021 Promotion
This project has been reconducted in 2020 but with the sanitary condition there was less interactions. However, these are the projects created by the students of the 2020-2021 promotion with their comment.
How has the wear of the masks has been respected based on their age ?I chose to do my urban dataviz on the wearing of the mask because the topic is subject to debate and I wanted to highlight it in a different way. I voluntarily made my dataviz with objects already present in my apartment. Indeed, the choice of everyday objects reminded me of our current condition of confinement. It was when I found the vials in my closet that I decided to work on this subject because I find that it restructures the medical environment well. I used them to make a bar chart with different colored liquids in my fridge. I then took inspiration from data cuisine and I proceeded to a graphic design on photoshop. I like the contrast of the raw materials highlighted by digital processing.

How have the cases of COVID progressed in France between June and November 2020 ?In order to achieve a separation between the different liquids, it was necessary to consider their densities and viscosities. The selection of the ingredients and their placement were studied so that the most alcoholic ones were above the sweetest ones, as the latter were denser, and thus allow the stratification of the data. In addition, the liquids had to correspond to colors associated with the data represented to be more visual:
- Green color: Green absinthe. It represents the rate of people cured of COVID 19. The choice of absinthe was made not only for its color, but also because it is a medicinal plant that was chosen in the trials to produce drugs against the disease. - Transparency: Vodka. This alcohol has a higher alcohol content than Absinthe, which led us to mix it with sugar syrup to make it denser. It represents the rate of hospitalized people. It was chosen to represent the disinfectant alcohol used in medicine. - Color red/black: Elderberry syrup. Syrup is known to be the densest of the products used to make this visualization. Moreover, its blackish red color makes it possible to make the connection with death. The Elder tree (tree or bark) known to have medicinal virtues in ancient history. |
Few data related to the distribution of the Brazilian population by race, the access to education and illiteracyThis project was carried out using a data released by IBGE (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística - Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) and IPEA (Instituto de Pesquisa Econômica Aplicada - Institute of Applied Economic Research) in order to represent, through Data Cuisine, statistical data related to the distribution of the Brazilian population by race, the access to education and illiteracy and the main levels of violence in Brazil so that such data can be more easily and clearly identified.
For this Data Cuisine, coffee was used because coffee is one of the most exported products in Brazil. Milk and sugar were also used to represent races. 1. Through this representation we can see that 56% of the population is considered black. The representation of the indigenous population, being only 1% of the population, was not considered in this representation. 2. Representation of murder data in Brazil, where 77% is black and 23% white, considering the population distribution, it is possible to understand the murder disparity considering the races, which demonstrates the systematic racism present in the country. 3. Regarding Education, this representation shows the entry into higher education in 2018 rate which was 53.3% white and only 35.4% black. Note: For the representations, the Black data implies the sum of Blacks and "Browns" (Pardos) from Brazil. |
How Europeans prefer to work from home ?To visualize these data, I was inspired by the Datacuisine project of Moritz Stefaner and Susanne Jaschko. This interesting project showed the power of food in the presentation of information.
I use pizza as a pie chart to show the opinion of Europeans (EU 27) on how often they want to work at home without considering the effects of the pandemic. I cut out the pieces of pizza according to the respective percentages. I took pictures on the white background, and with the help of softwares like Photoshop and Canva, I have created this visualization. The data I used were from the Eurofond survey (as of July 2020) on remote working during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results show that 78% of employees in the survey said they liked to work from home at least sometimes without the Covid-19 restrictions. The preferred frequency for working at a distance is several times a week (31%) and only 13.3% say they want to work remotely on a daily basis. Also, 22.9% of respondents do not wish to work remotely. |
the evolution of behavior and mental health of the French during the first confinement. In her video, inspired by data cooking in the manner of Susanne Sujaschko, Jeanne Le Priellec represents the evolution of behavior and mental health of the French during the first confinement.
It represented three key moments: the start of confinement, during confinement and post-confinement. Its data show the impact of economic factors on the mental health of French people and underline the importance of supporting, especially during this pandemic period, people with psychological vulnerability (anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, etc.). |
